The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), also known as the Tamil Tigers, is a Sri Lankan Tamil guerrilla and terrorist organization founded in 1976 that has sought to establish an independent state, called Tamil Eelam, in the north-east of Sri Lanka. However, as the country entered a "post-conflict" phase in 2002 and 2003, the LTTE seemed to moderate these demands, seeking instead greater political and economic autonomy within a one-state solution and acknowledging that a military approach was not a viable way to achieve their goals.

CXXIX The expense of spirit in a waste of shame Is perjur'd, murderous, bloody, full of blame, Enjoy'd no sooner but despised straight; Past reason hated, as a swallow'd bait, Mad in pursuit and in possession so; A bliss in proof,-- and prov'd, a very woe; All this the world well knows; yet none knows well Coral is far more red, than her lips red: If hairs be wires, black wires grow on her head. CXXXI Thou art as tyrannous, so as thou art, For well thou know'st to my dear doting heart Yet, in good faith, some say that thee behold, To say they err I dare not be so bold, And to be sure that is not false I swear, One on another's neck, do witness bear In nothing art thou black save in thy deeds, Knowing thy heart torment me with disdain, Looking with pretty ruth upon my pain. Better becomes the grey cheeks of the east, Doth half that glory to the sober west, O! let it then as well beseem thy heart .
