Szczecin (German and Swedish name Stettin), is a city in Pomerania, north-western Poland, capital of Zachodniopomorskie region. The city is situated south and around the Greater Bay into which the Odra river flows. The Western side is now called Lewobrzeze and Eastern side Prawobrzeze. Between them is an archipelago with many islands (industrial areas with shipyards and sea-port infrastructure, Stettin and Swinoujscie are together Poland's most important sea ports).

- 1181 - All of Pomerania is in the Holy Roman Empire
- 1237-1243 -Stettin receives Magdeburg laws
- 1472 - Margravate of Brandenburg becomes ruler of Pomerania
- 1630 - Sweden takes over Stettin
- 26 April 1945 - city taken over by Soviet army, a part of Poland since. The battle of Szczecin resulted in loss of many soldiers, about 40.000 Germans and an unknown number of Soviets. Anglo-American air raids destroyed much of the historical old city.
