Malta is a town located in Saratoga County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 13,005.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 81.2 km² (31.4 mi²). 72.6 km² (28.0 mi²) of it is land and 8.7 km² (3.4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 10.71% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 13,005 people, 5,295 households, and 3,537 families residing in the town. The population density is 179.2/km² (464.2/mi²). There are 5,754 housing units at an average density of 79.3/km² (205.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 96.24% White, 1.08% African American, 0.28% Native American, 1.05% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.52% from other races, and 0.82% from two or more races. 1.45% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 5,295 households out of which 34.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.6% are married couples living together, 7.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.2% are non-families. 24.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.45 and the average family size is 2.96.

In the town the population is spread out with 25.6% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 36.6% from 25 to 44, 22.9% from 45 to 64, and 8.6% who are 65 years of age or older.
