- January 15 - The Rolling Stones appear on The Ed Sullivan Show. At Ed Sullivan's request, the band changed their lyrics from "Let's spend the night together" to "Let's spend some time together".
- January 22 - Simon and Garfunkel give live concert at Philharmonic Hall[?] in New York City. While bits and pieces of this concert are released on October 4, 1997, on their box set Old Friends, the majority of this concert isn't released until July, 2002.
